Chairman's Blog - May 2010

The minutes of the latest BHA committee meeting (Mon. 24 May) will be posted soon. I had a meeting with Adam Cruttenden today and here are brief notes of that discussion:-

Newsletter: The Marina Newsletter is due soon and will be sent to all berth holders and recently departed berth holders (2 years)

Hoses: I proposed 2 hoses per leg. Price to buy one is £18 not the £8 previously advertised.

Open Day: Although the day was a success and four yachts and a motorboat gave short trips, more boats would have been very helpful. Thank you letters will be sent to the owners.

Crane: Following the recent drilling, a structural engineer report will be delivered 7 June and it is expected that by 18 June costs will be finalised and installation started.

Trolleys: Delivery expected next week.

Pontoon Lights: Maintenance have been funded to rewire Pontoons A and B and to examine requirements on C and D.

Planks: Adam and I will inspect all boards and mark those for changing on 1 Jun.

New Pontoons: Piling is due to start this Thursday and installation of pontoons probably by 11 June but may be slipped by contractor.

Etiquette: Some damage has been caused to moored boats without the courtesy of anyone admitting to be the cause. A notice will be placed on the notice board inviting information and witness details to be handled, in absolute confidence, with Marina Management.

Transeurope Marina Card: To obtain the card that provides 5 days free mooring at participating marinas, ask at office.

Drying Berth: Not yet done but it is planned to be done .

Speeding in the Marina: Article is to appear in next newsletter.

Dredging: Thumper is being taken out of service 1 June and may be returned 1 July. All boaters are advised to keep 15m clear of the wave barrier, even after dredging.

Boat Jumble: The Sailing School shed is booked for Sunday 27 Feb 2011 for a boat jumble.

Antifouling: Hard hats are to be worn when antifouling patches and the time taken is to be kept short, max 5 mins, so roller application is the most suitable.

Paint Can Bin: A cabinet will be installed to accept empty paint cans for correct disposal. Location to follow.

Duty Manager: A second duty manager has been recruited to improve management at the marina including environmental action and H&S. He starts 5 Jul.
